The breeding value assessment in December sets the genetic course for the coming breeding year. The successful further development of our breed is reflected in the basic adjustment of the breeding values with 1.0 points for overall breeding value, 0.7 points for milk value, 0.5 points for fitness value and 0.2 points for beef value.
Docile, robust and fit cows that achieve high lifetime yields are the goal of every breeder and milk producer – here in Austria as well as in many of our customers’ countries. Nothing should be left to chance when laying the genetic basis of the herds. Current Fleckvieh genetics offers an extensive range of bulls with different inheritance focuses. Every insemination should be preceded by targeted mating. We therefore recommend that all breeder families make use of the breeding and mating advice of our member associations in addition to their own breeding instinct.
The heterozygous polled MAJESTIX P*S was able to place himself at the top of the list of bulls with daughter performance and scores with impressive breeding value development and daughters with strong substance. The particularly strong udder GS WUNDAWUZI was able to take a new position in the top field. GS WINTEN, who produces powerful, full-bodied daughters, also made the leap into the progeny-tested top segment. GS DELUXE convinces with young cows with strong conformation and shows strength in milk components. WINTERTRAUM consolidates his reputation as a fitness and feet & legs specialist. With a strikingly strong udder profile HIROTO can score points. Newly progeny tested, the homozygous polled MEMORY PP*.

The top spot goes to HEISSwho continues to impress with an impeccable profile. Several of his sons are pushing strongly into the limelight. GS HONORAR is one such son and impresses with a similarly balanced inheritance pattern and high hoof health value (KGW) as his sire.
Also new and at the forefront is GS HINBLICKwho promises to improve the milk fat content of his daughters. The strong conformation HALFWAY is interestingly bred. With HERNESTO and GS HIEBLER are two more HEISS sons who can combine high production potential in milk and meat.
GS HOCHTIROL stands out with its udder strength and balanced profile. GS ITALO is the answer to the search for bulls that improve components and frame.
The demand from breeders for bulls with genetically polled sires remains strong. Currently, 38 percent of all Fleckvieh inseminations in Austria are carried out with polled sires, and in some breeding organizations this proportion is already over 50 percent. There is a demand for bulls that can combine very high performance potential with heterozygous polledness. The new GS WAIERDORF Pp*, HUANCANO Pp*, WATER POWER P*S and SUEDEN Pp* can combine these attributes and at the same time promise to improve udder traits. The range of homozygous polled sires is also becoming increasingly high-quality. With HOCHKARAT PP* is a purebred sire with an emphasis on components whose linear profile leaves nothing to be desired. With GS ME TO PP*, SALOMON PP* and MENZARO PP* further homozygous polled heifers are being offered that promise performance and fitness in a package with remarkable udder quality.
